About Us

Primal Wound is a glimpse into the Gnostic, mystical fantasies of Charlemagne Charmaine (Cassandra, CIVC).  Charmaine is a multi-media artist, musician, and vocalist active in the Bay Area art and music scene since 2007. She is trained in traditional vocal techniques and  currently experiments with harmonic overtone singing.  She has been fascinated by Western Esotericism, Christian Theology,  Gnosticism, and general mystic iconography/ texts since her teenage years. Her songs usually draw from such mystic inspirations and themes as well as her experience being an adopted person.

Paul Korte is an Audio Engineer and the studio manager at Santo Recordings in West Oakland.  He also operates at his home studio mixing and recording local bands (with Sebastian the cat's approval).  He started his career at the (now closed), but infamous The Plant in Sausalito, CA. 

Together, their current Primal Wound releases promise mystic vibes where cavernous reverb joins with with sateen layers of multiple spirit 'angels', as Char summons up archetypal images of Gnostic Dream Pop and Paul lays down heated Fripp-like Guitar.
